The WHY
Graduation ceremonies hold a special significance as they mark the final step in the culmination of years of hard work and academic achievement. Symbolising the transition from student to graduate, they provide a sense of closure and accomplishment. Beyond the academic recognition, these events foster a sense of community, pride, and belonging among students and institutions, creating lasting memories and a strong sense of accomplishment that lingers for a lifetime.
The Leeds Beckett Graduations in 2023 were not just a traditional academic ceremonies but a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of education. These students had weathered the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic during their early academic years, making their achievement of reaching graduation a remarkable and inspiring accomplishment.
Which is why we had to make sure the event reflected this sense of occasion...
The HOW
Embracing the significance of this event, we took on the responsibility to make not only the University, but the graduates' vision a reality. Kitting out the iconic Leeds First Direct Arena with the latest in AV technology, including microphones for all academic speakers and bespoke rigged speaker system to ensure a high quality, immersive audio experience throughout the arena.
We meticulously curated and constructed a grand stage to host alumni and offer every student the chance to walk across proudly to collect their degrees, and capture a cherished memory.
To immortalise these moments, we positioned skilled cameramen strategically to capture every second, broadcasting it on the big screen and recording it for the students to take home with them.
For an extra special treat, we live streamed the entire week of ceremonies, ensuring that guests who couldn't physically attend the event remained an integral part of the celebration. This allowed friends and family to share in the joy of the occasion from afar, bridging the distance that circumstances had imposed.
The WHAT
Throughout the week, students arrived with their loved ones and fellow classmates, adorned in their caps and gowns ready to celebrate the past years of their lives at university. With excitement buzzing in the air and all the students and guests ushered into their designated seats, the processions finally commenced.
The ceremonies began with a formal processional walk out with academics for each particular school. Followed by a moving video that honoured the students' time at the university, giving them the opportunity to refelct on how far they had come and offered them best wishes for their future endeavours. A select few speeches were made from the academics and university representatives, who had guided and taught these students over the years, emphasising the importance of the graduates' achievements and their resilience in the face of adversity.
The highlight of each ceremony had to be when each student crossed the stage. Their names were proudly announced, and each graduate doffed their cap to the Dean of School. The atmosphere was electric, and each student received an enthusiastic round of applause from the audience. It was a deeply emotional and memorable moment that marked the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
Sparq was deeply honored to be part of the Leeds Beckett University Graduations of 2023. It was a celebration of the resilience and accomplishments of a remarkable class of graduates who had faced unprecedented challenges. The grandeur and glamour of the event reflected their remarkable achievements and served as a fitting tribute to their hard work and dedication.
The week was filled with a unique blend of hope, nostalgia, and excitement, as families and friends gather to witness their loved ones' transformation from students to graduates. For many this week became a poignant milestone, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, and we can’t wait to continue to create more special moments like these.
