The Passage’s annual Night Under the Stars goes hybrid
With the help of Sparq during continuing government restrictions, homelessness charity The Passage transformed this year's special 20th anniversary Night Under the Stars into a truly magical event.
Streamed live to over 500 households and hosted by comedian Rory Bremner and classical music radio broadcaster Petroc Trelawny, the event saw the charity raise over £41,000. With proceeds going directly to supporting homeless people this winter, particularly those now at risk of unemployment and losing their home due to the continuing pandemic, a seamless online delivery was of critical importance.
360 technical event production
Sparq's video production team filmed performances live from the London Coliseum, home of English National Opera, and included renowned vocal accompanist Gary Matthewman, the Orion Orchestra and conductor Toby Purser. In addition, there were readings from the lovely soprano Dame Ann Murray, broadcaster and journalist Sue Lawley, and one of Britain's best-loved story makers, Michael Morpurgo. The evening was crucial in highlighting the important work of The Passage frontline workers which included Michael, Gladys, Janet, Claudette and Milita, who were interviewed with much-loved comedian, Rory Bremner.
Hybrid event elements from the Coliseum and streams from presenters' homes were mixed back at the Sparq studio and delivered via our live event streaming platform, IDEA+. Here, guests could watch live and take part in interactive elements which included polls and live chat, whilst organisers could moderate the entire event and review in-platform analytics.
The event featured an online auction where the charity had prizes including a three-course Dinner for Two at Theo Randall at the InterContinental, a special sports experience for two at the historic Queen’s Tennis Club in London, and lunch with the former editor of the Financial Times, Lionel Barber. The evening was a massive success for the charity raising an outstanding amount to help continue their valuable work.

"Sparq have supported The Passage for many years at our Night Under the Stars event which is held at the Royal Festival Hall. We were thrilled to be able to work with them and have their support for our 20th anniversary event. The team at Sparq was brilliant and created a truly special and memorable event for our wonderful supporters and us. Your support is hugely appreciated as always and especially now when we need it the most in this challenging year. I couldn't have done it without you!"
