NHS Nightingale NE opening goes hybrid
All star collaboration
NHS Nightingale North East was the latest hospital to open in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We collaborated with award winning PR and design agency, Fusion PR to deliver technical production for the opening ceremony which featured the likes of Ant & Dec, Alan Shearer, and cricketer Ben Stokes.
Technical event production
Four weeks before it’s launch, it was announced that a 460-bed facility would be built in Washington, Tyne and Wear to join the other six temporary critical care NHS Nightingale Hospitals across the country as part of the response to COVID-19.
Sparq were called in to help by Fusion PR, to deliver full technical event production including lighting and sound, plus live event streaming to allow all key workers involved attend the opening ceremony both in person and virtually.
With social distancing measures in place, our small team of six successfully installed multiple PA systems and cameras behind partition walls so all equipment was hidden, providing a sleek look, and ensuring nobody’s view was compromised. We had numerous relay screens throughout the ward so everyone could see the live feed and watch pre-recorded messages of thanks from government ministers, TV presenters Ant and Dec, Newcastle United captain Alan Shearer, England cricketer Ben Stokes and other local celebrities.
Those unable to attend didn’t miss out, we had over 450 attendees tune in watching the ceremony in real-time online. We also provided several press feeds to select members of the media who were allowed into the event, where our content was then broadcast by ITV and other publishing outlets. Since the opening ceremony we’ve had over 10,000 views on demand, which keeps rising.
John McCabe, Managing Director at Fusion PR Creative, explained: "Sparq have bought in their expertise and their experience to provide all of the technology, audio visual, streaming and made the live production work run absolutely seamlessly so it’s been a pleasure to work with the team at Sparq and I look forward to hopefully doing so in the future."
